Middle Tennessee State University reopened Thursday, Jan. 18. All classes are meeting as scheduled, and offices opened at their usual start times.
Students who feel they cannot safely travel to campus on Thursday should advise their professors to make appropriate arrangements. Faculty should accommodate students who feel they cannot safety travel to campus, and the faculty members should post necessary information about resumption of courses.
Student class attendance during inclement weather when the university is open is addressed in MTSU’s 2017-18 “Blue Raider Planner and Handbook”. It explains on page 25 that “students will be allowed to use their own discretion when snow and icy conditions exist — they will be given the opportunity to make up missed classes should they decide not to attend.”
Employees should use their discretion in reporting to work; those who are unable to report should contact their supervisor(s) and take annual leave.
University grounds and facilities employees have been clearing streets, parking lots and sidewalks this week to ensure safe travel across campus. Motorists and pedestrians still should travel carefully Thursday and watch for and avoid any icy patches that could reform.
