Turning science into a fun way to spend the summer was the topic of a recet “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr, Dennis Mullen, chair of the university’s Department of Biology, first aired July 5 on WMOT-FM Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org.

Students entering 10th and 11th grades participated in activities centered on science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines, also known as STEM, at the College of Basic and Applied Sciences’ STEM Summer Camp, held July 11-15.

This week of fun-filled, age-appropriate events, hosted by the departments of biology, chemistry and engineering technology, took place both on- and off-campus. Each afternoon ended at the Campus Recreation Center.

“Our approach is going to be to take all the students that have signed up for the camp, divide them up into three separate groups, and then each group will spend one day in each department,” Mullen said. “Each department will have activities for that one day.”

The campers spent July 14 getting an overall view of how the disciplines interrelate. Attendees spent July 15 engaged in small group activities to develop presentations.

Lunch, snacks and drinks were provided for the 45 registered campers.
