Enhance your communication skills this summer by learning a new language through the fun, hands-on virtual American Sign Language course offered by MTSU in early June.
MTSU’s Center for Accelerated Language Acquisition has opened registration for the five-day course that combines ASL Part 1 and 2 into a single learning experience. The course runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, June 5-9.
Instructor Haley Jensen leads the class participants through games and other hands-on activities dealing with greetings, numbers, colors, body parts, the alphabet and elements of basic, everyday conversation.
“It has been great to have the ASL course (as) an online class,” said Brianna S., an environmental health and safety specialist. “I have been able to enjoy interacting and practicing with my classmates, engage and play games, and do all of this conveniently at home.
“The class itself is so much fun, and the fact that it can be done virtually makes it even easier to accommodate into my schedule. No excuses not to learn!”
Brian Roberts, associate director of CALA, said the class will be capped at 30 participants.
“It usually fills up quickly, and this will be our only offering this summer, so you’re encouraged to register as soon as possible,” he said.
The fees for the course are $260 for the public, $230 for MTSU faculty, staff and alumni, and $200 for MTSU students and high school students and teachers.
