An MTSU alumnus who has been singled out for his contributions to education was the guest on a recent “MTSU On the Record” radio program.
Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dustin Brannon, an American history teacher at Rocky Fork Middle School in Smyrna, Tennessee, first aired Oct. 8 on WMOT-FM Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org. You can hear that conversation above.
The New York-based Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History recently named Brannon as the 2019 Tennessee State History Teacher of the Year.
Although he said he also likes science, Brannon said he’s always wanted to teach American history.
“I thought, ‘There’s a lot of hidden stories that don’t get told,’” Brannon said. “That was something I thought was a calling for me to be able to do.”
Brannon earned his bachelor’s degree in education in 2012 and his master’s degree in education with an emphasis in school administration in 2017, both from MTSU’s College of Education.
