MTSU’s campus community and the general public have an opportunity to quickly improve their language skills thanks to the Center for Accelerated Language Acquisition’s upcoming 15th annual Summer Language Institute at MTSU.
Register now for one of CALA’s five-day accelerated language classes, which include Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Latin and Spanish.
For upcoming class dates, fees and times, visit www.mtsu.edu/cala/classes.php.
Classes, which are open to anyone in the community age 13 and up, encourage learning with lots of hands-on, interactive methods that take place in a fun, low-stress atmosphere using movement, songs, games and stories.
For a discounted fee, MTSU students, faculty and staff unable to trek to foreign countries this summer can instead experience what it’s like to learn a foreign language in the Paul W. Martin Sr. Honors Building.
CALA founder and Director Shelley Thomas shared the experience of a previous student who showed his eagerness to learn.
“One student was so impressed with the results and reasonable cost, he actually took three different languages in one summer,” Thomas said.
CALA focuses on using a brain-based approach that’s led to some beginners successfully testing out of one to four semesters of college-level language classes on MTSU’s foreign language placement test.
