CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — MTSU alumnus Darrell Freeman Sr., executive managing director of Zycron Inc., has been elected to the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee board of directors, the company announced recently.
A native of Chattanooga, Freeman founded the Tennessee-based Zycron and served as executive chairman of the information technology consulting firm before selling the company in 2017. He currently serves as vice chairman of the MTSU Board of Trustees.
“Darrell is an entrepreneur, visionary and servant leader whose many contributions to Tennesseans make him a natural fit for the BlueCross board,” said Marty G. Dickens, BlueCross Board chairman in the BlueCross news release.
“As the health care industry faces continued transformation, his business acumen and experience driving technology innovation, coupled with his commitment to community, will bring an important perspective as we continue to help support our members.”
Freeman started Zycron in 1991 and later sold the company to BG Staffing Inc., one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing temporary staffing companies, the release states. He has been involved in several business ventures throughout his career. He is currently chairman of the board for S3 Recycling Solutions and co-founder and board member at Reliant Bank in Brentwood.
He also serves on the board of Cross Country Healthcare, a health care staffing and workforce solutions firm in Boca Raton, Florida.
Freeman earned bachelor’s (’87) and master’s degrees (’90) from MTSU and was a past board member of the Tennessee Board of Regents. He holds a number of committee and board appointments in Middle Tennessee including two-time chairperson of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, and board membership with the 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee and the Nashville Entrepreneur Center.
He was inducted into the Junior Achievement Nashville Business Hall of Fame in 2019.
