MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University sophomore political science major Victoria Grigsby, of Taft, earned a spot as a Delta Scholar in the 2024 Delta Scholars Program.

The Delta Scholars Program is a two-part academic and community engagement program for talented and socially conscious college students interested in moving Mississippi and the Multi-State Delta region toward a brighter, more just tomorrow.

“We are excited to extend her an invitation to join the cohort,” said Kecia Johnson, director of Delta Scholars and associate professor of sociology at Mississippi State University. “Her application exemplified leadership and passion to move the multi-state Delta Region toward a brighter, more just tomorrow.”

The program will take place in June at Mississippi State University and Grigsby will have the opportunity to attend the Boston Conference hosted by Harvard Brandeis and Harvard School of Public Health partners in Boston, Massachusetts, in November.

The first week of the Delta Scholar’s Summer Institute will take place in Starkville, Mississippi, on the campus of MSU’s Shackouls Honors College for a program featuring workshops, speakers and research presentations. During the second week, the cohort will travel to the Mississippi Delta for the program’s Delta Innovation Tour. The institute culminates at the Delta Regional Forum, where students will present their capstone project proposals.

“I am so honored to be accepted into the Delta Scholars program at Mississippi State University,” said Grigsby. “I am excited to discuss and research various issues affecting the South and work with fellow participants to find future solutions. I hope to bring my experiences back to MTSU and the Political and Global Affairs Department to broaden our view of the surrounding region outside of Middle Tennessee.”
