MTSU professor of U.S. history Dr. Elizabeth Gritter writes about how black voting power rose up in Memphis in a guest column published in the July 25 edition of The Tennessean.
Gritter’s scholarship focuses on civil rights and black political efforts in Memphis. Her column calls for a painting or monument in the State Capitol in honor of the efforts of pioneering black politicians almost a half-century ago.
