True ‘Boo’ Halloween fun at MTSU Oct. 28-29 ahead of ‘spooktacular’ holiday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University is brewing up a cauldron of trick-or-treating fun for junior True Blue fans with some “spooktacular” Halloween-themed activities on Oct. 28-29.

Trick or Treat on Greek Row

The public is invited to bring their children ages 12 and younger to participate in the free Trick or Treat on Greek Row from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in front of the sorority houses at Rutherford Boulevard and Alumni Drive on campus.

“MTSU is absolutely thrilled to bring the community together for a celebration full of fun, laughter and plenty of treats — and no tricks,” joked Hayden Schimborski, coordinator of MTSU’s Fraternity and Sorority Life, which is cosponsoring the event with the MTSU Panhellenic Council. “Whether it’s trick-or-treating on Greek Row or joining the Party in the Grove, this is a chance for families to make lasting memories while experiencing the True Blue spirit.”

There will be a variety of games for children to play at the houses and lots of candy to grab for little Blue Raider ghouls, ghosts and goblins — and video game characters, superheroes, pro athletes, K-pop artists and more.

Guests are asked to park in the Rutherford Boulevard lot across the street and there is no charge for parking or participation in the Halloween activities. There is a crosswalk where families can safely access campus by foot.

The event is produced by MTSU’s sororities and fraternities in partnership with the Office of MTSU Fraternity and Sorority Life in the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership.

Traditional tailgating and pregame festivities for the football match between the MTSU Blue Raiders and Jacksonville State University Gamecocks on Wednesday, Oct. 29, will have a Halloween twist as part of Party in the Grove on campus.

Held in Walnut Grove, an open green space between Peck Hall and the Cope Administration Building, the family-friendly Party in the Grove will kick off at 3:30 p.m. Fans are also encouraged to come early to participate in the pregame Raider Walk and cheer on the football team as they head to Floyd Stadium.

The free activities will include a “mechanical pumpkin ride,” bounce houses, face painting and caricatures, airbrushed long-sleeve tees and wax hand making — a creepy keepsake from this “spooktacular” event.

Along with candy and tailgating, food trucks will be on site.

In addition, singer-songwriter and MTSU alumnus Nick Carpenter — known as Medium Build — will take the stage for a performance. In 2024, he released the album “Country” and “Marietta” EP, with the latter including a collaboration with former college classmate Julien Baker, “Yoke.”

Activities are offered free of charge and open to the public.

The party will wind down 45 minutes before kickoff, which is set for 6:30 p.m.

There will be a Halloween costume contest, and kids 12 and younger who arrive in costume will get in free. There will also be trick-or-treating on the concourse.

Activities will take place inside Floyd Stadium on the upper north endzone concourse, right next to the Family Fun Zone and overlooking the field just outside the new Smith Student-Athlete Performance Center.

“The night also serves as Breast Cancer Awareness Night, with fans encouraged to wear pink in support of the nationwide fight against breast cancer,” said Chelsea Floyd, associate athletic director for marketing and licensing for MTSU Athletics. “During halftime, fans can enjoy performances by the Jacksonville State Marching Southerners and the MTSU Band of Blue.”
