MTSU Department of Recording Industry chair and alumna Beverly Keel was Monday’s guest on the WGNS-FM’s “Action Line” program with host Bart Walker.
Keel returned to the MTSU College of Mass Communication in August after taking a leave of absence to serve as senior vice president of media and artist relations for Universal Music Group Nashville.
In the interview, Keel and Walker discuss changes in the music industry and how MTSU’s recording industry program prepares students for successful careers.
“Pop music is really a young person’s game now,” she said. “… The challenge is, if you have a non-mainstream artist, how do you get them heard? The Internet is good for that now, but you still have to build a buzz so that people will know to go find it online.”
