A recent edition of the “MTSU On the Record” radio program examines global investment and international residency in Tennessee.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. Steven Livingston, a professor of political science at MTSU, first aired Sept. 7 on WMOT-FM (89.5 and www.wmot.org ). You can listen to their conversation above.

Livingston also is a research associate with MTSU’s Business and Economic Research Center and editor of the quarterly publication Global Commerce.

He reported in the spring 2015 edition of Global Commerce that new foreign investments in Tennessee in 2014 led to 6,327 jobs, compared with 4,607 similarly created jobs in 2013.

In the winter 2015 edition of Global Commerce, Livingston assessed Tennessee’s foreign-born population, finding that more than 300,000 people living in Tennessee have come from another country.

He said, however, that’s a low figure by comparison to other states.

“Today, they are actually coming mostly from Asia, which might surprise people because we are so obsessed with Mexican immigration,” said Livingston. “In Tennessee, in the last five years, I believe, it’s 11 percent come from Mexico.”
