MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — If you’ve been wanting to round up the recyclable materials accumulating at home, Middle Tennessee State University’s Center for Energy and Sustainability will host a series of collection events for the campus community this fall.

All MTSU employees and students are invited to participate in the next MTSU Recycling Stop and Drop set for 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the MTSU RV lot east of the Tennessee Livestock Center on the northeast edge of campus off Blue Raider Drive. (See map at bottom.)
“Whether you’ve been holding onto cardboard, paper, plastics or metals at home, now’s your chance to bring them to campus and have MTSU Recycles help you responsibly recycle them,” said Kristin England, the sustainability manager for the Center for Energy and Sustainability.
Drop by with your presorted recycling and place it in clearly labeled bins so you can do your part in keeping items that can be recycled from ending up in a landfill.
“We’re just trying to help out and add a convenience for employees and students to be able to bring their stuff to work or school and drop it off,” England explained.

Be sure to bring your MTSU ID and presorted recycling from home that meets the requirements. Recyclables that will be accepted include:
- Cardboard: Broken down, no food waste, no packaging materials.
- Paper/newspaper/magazines: Clean and dry.
- Preshredded paper must be bagged.
- Plastic: Types 1 and 2 only, rinsed out.
- Aluminum Cans: Any, prefer crushed.
- Metals: Tin cans, small scrap metal, cannot contain any fluids.
In addition to the event on Sept. 24, MTSU Recycling Stop and Drop will be held in the same location and time frame on these upcoming dates: Thursdays on Oct. 16, Nov. 20 and Dec. 18. There is no charge to participate.
