MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — New and returning MTSU student veterans and their families are welcome to attend a “newcomers briefing” hosted by the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center.
The event, which is free and with a barbecue and brisket meal catered by Aramark Dining Services, will be held starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in the Miller Education Center’s second-floor atrium, 503 Bell St., in Murfreesboro.
Organizers request new and returning student veterans and their families make their reservation by emailing DeAnne Hathaway at DeAnne.Hathaway@mtsu.edu or call 615-904-8002.
“We are excited to welcome a new group of military-connected students to MTSU,” said Hilary Miller, center director. “While the Newcomers Briefing is always a valuable way to begin the semester, I think it is particularly important for the spring term.
“Starting at a new school in January can be challenging. Attending the Newcomers Briefing is great way to ensure that you are squared away and ready for the academic mission that lies ahead. Family and friends are welcome.”
Miller and her staff are targeting new-to-MTSU student veterans and family members, but it is open to all student veterans and their families, she said.
Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Keith M. Huber, senior adviser for veterans and leadership initiatives, will speak during the event.
The Daniels Center supports more than 1,100 student veterans and family members and is the largest and most comprehensive veterans center on any Tennessee higher education campus. It is located in Keathley University Center Rooms 124 and 316.
MTSU’s spring semester begins Tuesday, Jan. 21.
