Students looking for housing close to the MTSU campus will be able to explore their options safely and virtually.
The 2021 Off-Campus Housing Fair, sponsored by the June Anderson Center for Women and Nontraditional Students, will be held virtually from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. Interested parties can register with their email addresses at https://forms.gle/EhjDt9xBaSBo4imR6.
Various companies will offer floor plans for viewing and virtual tours of their properties. Students will have access to pricing and availability information. Property representatives will be available for live online chats, and some properties could offer giveaways.
No apartment complexes participating in the virtual fair are affiliated with MTSU or the June Anderson Center.
Maigan Wipfli, director of the June Anderson Center, said arranging the virtual fair was challenging because of COVID-19 protocols, but it also was necessary for the same reason.
“This was difficult this year, due to us having to cancel last year,” said Wipfli. “However, with the decrease in the on-campus availability (due to the pandemic), many complexes who have either participated in the past or haven’t had as many student renters saw an increase (in inquiries).”
To mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on campus amid the ongoing pandemic, MTSU administration decided to reduce campus housing to single-occupancy levels indefinitely, meaning that rooms previously shared by two roommates will only be occupied by a single student.
Representatives from the June Anderson Center also will be available for live chats for those who have questions or concerns during the virtual housing fair.
