This month’s guests were interviewed by program host Andrew Oppmann, vice president of the Division of Marketing and Communications, from studios located in the Center for Educational Media inside the McWherter Learning Resources Center on campus.

April guests include:

Dr. Todd Moore

• Dr. Todd Moore, who recently joined MTSU as chair of the Department of Geosciences, explains how students and faculty are engaging in hands-on research in the study of the Earth through innovative technology.

Students are working with machines they might use in the field such as remote-sensing imagery, ground-penetrating radar and X-ray fluorescence to prepare for careers in geology and environmental science.

Carol Swayze

• Carol Swayze, director of Experiential Learning, outlines details about the EXL Scholars Program that encourages students to gain real-world experiences as part of coursework to help them be career ready.

EXL encompasses various high-impact practices that incorporate elements commonly found in traditional internships as students transition from the classroom setting. Students get “hands-on” learning such as co-ops, study abroad, lab courses, teacher education and research as part of coursework.

Dr. Tiffany Dellard

• Dr. Tiffany Dellard, director of the Office of Educator Preparation in the College of Education, talks about teaching abroad opportunities through the Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching.

Prospective teachers must complete a residency requirement, where they go into schools and work as a teacher-in-training before graduation. With this program, they can do that training in one of 15 countries through a teach abroad experience.
