MTSU plans Oct. 30 tests for campus safety alert system via website, emails, texts, calls, social media

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — MTSU will briefly conduct two tests of its campus emergency alert system on Thursday, Oct. 30, with short messages for the university’s 25,000-plus registered users via email, text, automated phone calls and social media, as well as via website and campus digital signage.

The tests of MTSU’s RAVE Critical Notification System, conducted each semester in conjunction with the University Police Department, will begin at 1:15 p.m. Central Thursday, followed by a second test at 1:30 p.m. No action is required.

The university’s website, mtsu.edu, its MTSUNews.com official news site, all digital signage around the Murfreesboro campus and university desktop computers will display the test messages as they would during a real emergency.

MTSU’s primary social media channels, including its X accounts (formerly known as Twitter), @MTSUNews@MTSU and @mtsualert, and Facebook page, will also share the test alerts.

All current MTSU students, faculty and staff can verify and update their Rave notification preferences by logging in with their usernames and passwords at www.getrave.com/login/mtsu.

Details on MTSU’s RAVE Critical Notification System and emergency preparedness plan can be found at https://mtsu.edu/alert4u. Information about “Rave Alert” and links are also available anytime on the university’s weather information page, https://mtsunews.com/weather.

MTSU tests and evaluates its Critical Notification System once each semester to pinpoint potential problems. Previous tests continue to show a near-100% message success rate, and digital signage in campus buildings displayed the test alerts within 30 seconds of transmission.
