MTSU’s student-run online newspaper Sidelines launches weekly newsletter

Middle Tennessee State University’s student-run digital news outlet, Sidelines, recently launched a weekly newsletter for students, alumni and others in the true blue community.

The newsletter, sent via email each Thursday afternoon, is populated with the publication’s best stories from the previous week, a note from the editor and a look ahead to the next week.

In recent online editor’s note announcing the newsletter’s launch, Editor-in-Chief Kailee Shores noted that “it directly deposits our biggest and best stories of the week into your inbox on Thursday afternoons.”

Those interested in subscribing to Sidelines’ weekly newsletter can sign up by clicking here.

An editorially independent publication, Sidelines has been telling stories for nearly 100 years. Browse some of the archived issues of the previous newspaper print edition in .pdf format.

Focusing on student life, campus events, sports and local news, the digital news source is entirely run by students and faculty advisor Matthew Leimkuehler, allowing students to gain experience as writers, photographers, editors and reporters. Sidelines also publishes opinion pieces and guest columns.

“Working for Sidelines allows our students to get true experience in journalism,” said Shores. “Having a byline with Sidelines provides students with real portfolio content. Employers are looking for students who have done real work. Sidelines is just that.”
