MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — If you have any pieces of art you want featured in the Middle Tennessee State University’s journal of creative expression, it’s your lucky day. The university’s premier creative journal, Collage, is taking submissions until September 12.
The biannually produced publication started in 1968 to embrace the artistic talents of students and alums.
The journal accepts photography, videography, poetry, prose and audio. Students can submit up to four pieces in four major categories: visual, literature, video and audio.
Arianella Meyers is the publication’s visual editor. Meyers said submissions to the publication have won more than two dozen awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press, with winners of each category receiving cash prizes.
She also encourages students to consider the professional gain they will get from submissions, adding that it could be a great resume topper or talking point in an interview.
As the visual editor, she loves the excitement of the role.
“The collaborative nature and the excitement everyone has to make this the best issue, and to get the word out, is moving,” Myers said.
Lena Eccles, College editor, loves seeing the students’ hard work pay off.
“Collage has been a great experience to work creatively with others on campus on a semester-wide project because at the end it is so satisfying to see our hard work and the work of all the students who submitted shown to all of MTSU,” said Eccles.
Students can submit their entries online and view all guidelines at https://collage.mtsu.edu/submit/, or drop off their pieces in room 224 of the Honors College, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
