UPDATE: MTSU cancels May 4 tornado sirens testing

(UPDATED 2 p.m. May 1) MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University has CANCELED its previously scheduled monthly tornado siren test scheduled for 11:20 a.m. Monday, May 4, on campus and at Tennessee Miller Coliseum.

Tests are conducted on the first Monday of each month, except for University holidays or other exceptions such as inclement weather near the area or to prevent disruptions of university activities, such as the upcoming final exams and previously scheduled special event.

The test, conducted by the University Police Department, is once again a brief opportunity to ensure MTSU’s outdoor warning system is working as needed. No safety actions are necessary, and no campus activities will be affected.

MTSU notifies its campus before each siren test. The university uses a “first Monday” monthly tornado-siren testing schedule to minimize distractions for the campus and its neighbors.

Members of the campus community can prepare for emergency weather by checking MTSU’s tornado preparedness recommendations at https://www.mtsu.edu/alert4u/tornado/.

Remember: When there’s a weather emergency, all students, faculty and staff automatically receive a Rave Mobile Safety alert at their MTSU email addresses. The university’s tornado sirens are intended to alert those who may be outdoors during dangerous weather.

MTSU community members who also want to be notified via text and/or voice message from the university’s Rave alert system can use the “click here and log in” link at https://mtsunews.com/weather to begin those alerts.
