A special workshop at MTSU on Saturday, June 8, will help students with disabilities prepare to make the big leap from high school to college and/or into the work world.
“Adolescent Literacy Institute: Transitioning to College/Work” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in Room 160 of the College of Education Building at MTSU.
The workshop is offered for students in grades seven through 12 who’ve been diagnosed with learning disabilities in reading and writing, including dyslexia, as well as students with other disabilities.
Students must register by Friday, June 7, to ensure a place in the workshop. The cost is $25 per person or $50 per family and includes a continental breakfast and afternoon snack.
Incoming MTSU freshmen with disabilities can attend free, organizers said.
The workshop is sponsored by the Tennessee Center for the Study and Treatment of Dyslexia, located at 200 N. Baird Lane on the MTSU campus. Saturday’s session topics include:
- “Preparing for the High School to College Transition”;
- “Requesting Accommodations on the ACT/SAT”;
- “Empowering You to Employment”;
- “How to Use Disability Services and Succeed”; and
- “Assistive Technology for Students Transitioning from High School to College/Job.”
