“Melting Point,” the theme for this year’s fashion show, will step off at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the Student Union Ballroom, located at 1768 MTSU Blvd. The ticketed event is $35 for general admission and $65 for VIP seating. To purchase, visit https://humansciences.mtsu.edu/txmd-runway-show/.

“This year’s annual TXMD Runway Show is unlike any that we have seen in the past,” said Guinneth Sintic of Franklin, an apparel design major who is co-directing the event with fashion merchandising major Rebekah Frey of Columbia. “We have put in countless hours making sure this will be an unforgettable night for MTSU’s fashion program and for our senior designers showcasing their collections.”

Check out a behind-the-scenes look at the preparations for the show:

The event is relocating from its previous home at the Miller Education Center on Bell Street to the new campus venue inside the Student Union, more than doubling the space for the production.

“The new location has opened up so many opportunities for our class to do bigger and better things with the show,” Sintic said.

The show will include three subcategories:

 • Global Warming will showcase designs with flowing silhouettes that represent melting icecaps and glaciers.

Overconsumption represents the amount of waste that is caused by the fashion industry and will feature oversized silhouettes with bold colors to represent the glamour of consumerism.

Deforestation will feature structured and angular silhouettes to reflect the emptiness and rigidity of deforested landscapes.

Nine senior designers have created their collections with over 40 models walking the runway to showcase their work.

Designers include Autumn Pickett of Chattanooga; Ella Schultz of Murfreesboro; Lily Cross of Pegram; Delanie Dempsey of Cleveland; Zoe Grummons and Annelise Hamada, both of Brentwood; Lai Kim of Antioch; Brooklyn Barton of Mount Juliet; and Abby Ruesewald of Old Hickory.

“This year’s show will feature so many new things that we haven’t gotten to do in the past, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise,” Sintic said. “You’ll just have to come and see.”

The show is overseen by Tiffany Fortson, fashion lecturer in MTSU‘s Textiles, Merchandising and Design Program, popularly known as TXMD, and conducted through the Department of Human Sciences in the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences.

Although the theme of the show takes a creative look at consumerism and excess, Fortson has some keen advice for her students: “There’s no such thing as waste when you’re a real designer; there’s always something creative you can make.”

There is no charge for parking on the weekend. A campus parking map is available at https://bit.ly/MTSUParking.
