Music industry website www.guitar-muse.com gave kudos to MTSU’s mass communication offerings recently in a story entitled “10 Reasons Why Nashville Is Cooler than You Think.”
The website notes the presence music industry programs near Music Row as a bonus, then quickly notes MTSU’s strong electronic media communications presence just down the road.
“Or if you don’t mind a drive, 30 miles away in Murfreesboro, Middle Tennessee State University offers a similar—many say superior—program, in addition to one of the top multimedia journalism schools in the South.”
Former longtime music industry journalist Beverly Keel, chair of the MTSU Department of Recording Industry, said such a mention recognizes the strength of MTSU’s program in preparing students to launch successful careers in the Nashville area.
“Nashville is considered the ‘It City’ right now, so it’s so exciting to know that MTSU is one of the 10 reasons why Nashville is cool,” Keel said. “I’m delighted that we’re receiving attention for our ‘superior program.’
“We have so many exciting things happening at MTSU this year, from the creation of the George Jones Fund and the recent visit by Barry Gibb to the success of our Grammy-winning faculty and alumni. This is an exciting new chapter in the history of one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious recording industry programs.”
