MTSU on WGNS: Dec. 1 application deadline, Recording Industry brag, RAD self-defense course

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University representatives appeared on WGNS Radio recently to share information about an important upcoming application deadline, more accolades for our Recording Industry Department, and an approaching free self-defense course taught by the University Police Department.

They appeared on the live “Action Line” program with guest host Bryan Barrett broadcast on FM 100.5, 101.9 and AM 1450 from the WGNS studio in downtown Murfreesboro. If you missed it, you can listen to the podcast of the Nov. 18 program also view a webcam version of the program.

• Kristen Janson, associate director of freshman recruitment at MTSU, discussed the Dec. 1 deadline fast approaching to apply and secure MTSU guaranteed scholarships. MTSU awards an array of guaranteed scholarships to qualifying first-time, incoming freshmen, but the deadline to take advantage is quickly approaching.

Prospective students for the 2025-26 academic year must have a complete application on file with the MTSU Admissions Office by Sunday, Dec. 1, to be considered for an academic merit guaranteed scholarship, ranging from $3,500 to $8,000 per year for four years based on ACT scores and GPA. 

Prospective students can apply by going to https://www.mtsu.edu/how-to-apply/ and following the prompts. 

Michelle Conceison, chair of the MTSU Recording Industry Department, discussed Billboard magazine again naming the department among the best music business schools internationally for 10th year.

The recently released article, “Billboard’s 2024 Top Music Business Schools,” noted the 50th anniversary of MTSU’s Department of Recording Industry and spoke highly of the hands-on opportunities students get working at high-profile events like the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Grammy Awards and the Country Music Awards, among other experiences.

• MTSU Police Sgt. Katelynn Liedtke and Sgt. Jason Hurley discussed the upcoming Rape Aggression Defense Systems, or RAD, course for female youth and adults.

Registration is open for the MTSU’s upcoming RAD course, which is a free training available to women and girls ages 13 and older from the campus community and the general public, including women unaffiliated with MTSU.The free class will be held every Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. from Nov. 25 to Dec. 16.  Participants must be able to attend ALL classes. To register, email your name and contact information to rad@mtsu.edu.
