MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University was recently included on the Forbes Magazine’s list of the 500 Top Colleges in the U.S., one of only four public institutions in the state to make the 2027 ranking.
MTSU also recently made the Money’s Best Colleges Profile, one of five public institutions in Tennessee earning a spot on the magazine’s annual list.

“We appreciate that MTSU’s excellence in academics and student success has once again been recognized by these, and many other, prominent national publications,” said President Sidney A. McPhee.
Forbes bases its list on average student debt, return on investment, enrollment and outcomes for low-income students, while Money evaluates its selections on acceptance rates, net price, graduation rates and salary outcomes.
MTSU, Forbes said, is “known for programs in music production, aerospace, business, education, the sciences and the liberal arts.” It also cited MTSU’s nationally recognized Department of Recording Industry and the Grammy wins of its former students and alumni.
MTSU also recently made the 2027 Best Colleges in the U.S. compiled by the Princeton Review for the eighth consecutive year as well as recognition from U.S. News and World Report and the Colleges of Distinction.
