Big student-volunteer turnout sparks successful ‘BIG Event’

MTSU students turned out in force for “The BIG Event,” a massive volunteer effort held March 23 in conjunction with the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties’ “Days of Actions.”

The MTSU Student Government Association and MT Athletics were official partners for the event, drawing more than 400 volunteers from the university community. This was the fifth year the university has held a large one-day student-volunteer effort.

According to the United Way, the partnership resulted in the largest Days of Action to date with 678 volunteers completing 2,594 hours of service and 40 projects. The Days of Action ran March 21-23.

This year’s volunteers did yard work, general cleaning, construction and other projects for agencies in Rutherford and Cannon counties that impact the areas of education, income, health and rebuilding lives. The event was sponsored by Nissan, Publix Super Markets Charities, Regions Bank and Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
