MTSU and the Heart of Tennessee chapter of the American Red Cross welcomed True Blue supporters to give from the heart for a pre-Valentine’s Day blood drive Feb. 12, accepting their gifts of a total of 131 pints of blood by day’s end.
The six-hour MTSU Valentine’s drive, held in the Tom Jackson Building on campus, was open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, neighbors and supporters from across the community.
“The next person who needs blood might be your family member or loved one, and we in Middle Tennessee currently have a shortage,” said Shivan Berwari, president of the MTSU Red Cross Club.
“The MTSU community is so generous during blood drives,” added Casie Higginbotham, a lecturer in the MTSU Department of Health and Human Performance and the club’s campus adviser. “As always, our campus community demonstrated generosity and a True Blue spirit!”
Donors who missed their opportunity to give blood Feb. 12 can make an appointment to donate at the Murfreesboro Red Cross offices at 501 Memorial Blvd. soon by visiting http://ow.ly/ki8T30iqGJB or using the new “American Red Cross Blood” app, available at http://ow.ly/S39Ke or by texting “BLOODAPP” to 90999.
Donors can save more time on donation day by completing the required health questionnaire online before they give blood with the Red Cross’s “Rapid Pass,” accessible at www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass.
