MTSU’s Center for Accelerated Language Acquisition, or CALA, is hosting its 16th annual Summer Language Institute at MTSU.
The CALA Summer Language Institute offers five-day accelerated language courses for participants age 13 and up in Italian, Japanese, Latin and Spanish.
CALA, the language training center of the MTSU University Honors College, offers accelerated language classes engineered to provide rapid gains in the language by appealing to how the brain learns best — which is how you learned your native language — with lots of hands-on, interactive methods in a fun, low-stress atmosphere using movement, songs, games and stories.
Dr. Shelley Thomas, founder and director of CALA, explains what students can expect from their accelerated language classes:
“We often have students who are completely new to the language. After two five-day classes, complete beginners have tested out of anywhere from one to four semesters of college-level language classes on MTSU’s foreign language placement test.
“The classes are fun and effective, so students are highly motivated to continue their language study. One student was so impressed with the results and reasonable cost, he actually took three different languages in one summer!”
Whether you want to start a new language or improve your current language skills, CALA five-day accelerated language courses are for you, organizers say.
