Seven members of MTSU’s Blue Raider Battalion were commissioned into the military as second lieutenants in a special pre-graduation ceremony Dec. 13 in the Keathley University Center theater.

Lt. Col. Joel Miller, chair of MTSU’s military science department, administered the oath to the new officers as family and friends snapped photos and applauded the students’ accomplishment.

The students are expected to receive their academic degrees Dec. 14 during the university’s fall 2013 commencement ceremonies in Murphy Center.

The newly commissioned second lieutenants are:

• Elizabeth Dang, who is earning a Bachelor of Science degree in liberal studies.
• Kenneth Davie, who will receive a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice.
• Jennie Fajardo, who is earning a Bachelor of Science in nursing.
• William Kemp, who will receive a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing.
• Hannah Pearson, who is earning a Bachelor of Science in nursing.
• Patrick Simpson, who will receive a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in business administration.
• Mychal Weekes, who is earning a Bachelor of Science in physics.
