May MTSU ‘Out of the Blue’ TV show features July 15-19 science college summer STEM camp [+VIDEO]

MURFRESBORO, Tenn. — In the May edition of “Out of the Blue,” the Middle Tennessee State University television magazine program, faculty member Heather Green shares details about an upcoming summer STEM camp hosted by the College of Basic and Applied Sciences on campus in July.

Designed for ambitious high school students eager to explore the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, the July 15-19 camp promises an immersive, enriching experience for the rising 10th through 12th graders.

The deadline to register is Saturday, June 1. The fee to attend is $250. To register, visit https://mtsu.edu/cbas/summercampregister.php.

“Out of the Blue” is hosted by Andrew Oppmann, MTSU vice president for marketing and communications.

“The students are going get an overview of STEM at MTSU,” said Green, a master instructor and MTeach program coordinator, referring to science, technology, engineering and math. “They will see our facilities and work in sessions with MTSU professors and graduate and undergraduate students.”

Green, the summer STEM camp coordinator, said she’s super excited about a new biology session where campers “actually go to the forensics facility, where they will look at a webcam and observe two different species of vultures.” She added there will be a chemistry of food session, one for quantum computing, STEM teaching and problem-solving in math. Engineering Technology will also exhibit their experimental vehicles and vision equipment.

On the show, Green discussed MTeach, a secondary education minor for math, science and agriculture majors planning to teach.

“Out of the Blue” is available anytime on the university’s YouTube channel, the True Blue TV channel, Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV. It also airs on Murfreesboro cable Channel 9 daily at 6 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.; NewsChannel5+ at 3:30 p.m. Sundays; and streamed on the MTSU Jazz Network through WMOT.org at 7 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month; and on other cable outlets in Middle Tennessee, so check local listings.
