MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University’s transfer admissions team will soon meet with prospective students at four Midstate community colleges with the annual MTSU Promise Tour.
Beginning Monday, Feb. 3, with the kickoff event at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, it’s the annual tour to reach out to prospective transfer students, in time for them to meet MTSU’s Feb. 15 deadline for the guaranteed transfer scholarship — $3,000 per year for qualifiers.
“We are excited to work with our local community college partners to help students finish their associate degrees and then transfer to MTSU to complete their bachelor’s degree,” said John Davis, MTSU undergraduate recruitment assistant director who oversees transfer admissions. “With almost 300 academic programs available, we have a major for everyone.”
“This year our Admissions Department is excited to visit Volunteer State, Motlow State, Columbia State and Nashville State and we aren’t coming alone,” Davis added. “We’ll be bringing over 20 of our department representatives with us, including someone from every academic college. No matter what subject the students are interested in, we’ll have someone to speak with them and provide counsel … not to mention all the free merch.”
The MTSU Promise is one of the university’s commitments to making the transfer process as smooth as possible and, in some cases, signing special agreements with the community colleges to ensure clear pathways.
Application fees will be waived during the Promise Tour visit for new transfer applicants for Summer ’25 and Fall ’25. There will also be giveaways and one scholarship drawing at each venue.
Tour events are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and include stops at:
• Monday, Feb. 3 — Volunteer State, Caudill Hall, Wemyss Auditorium and Room 224, 1480 Nashville Pike, in Gallatin.
• Tuesday, Feb. 4 — Motlow State Community College, Hiatt-Spivey Center lobby, 5004 Motlow College Blvd., in Smyrna.
• Wednesday, Feb. 5 — Columbia State, Jones Student Center Cafeteria, 1665 Hampshire Pike, Columbia.
• Thursday, Feb. 6 — Nashville State, Kisber Building lobby, 120 White Bridge Road, in Nashville.
“We are thrilled about the opportunity to work with our community college partners to help their students understand how easy it is to transfer to MTSU after they graduate with their associate degrees,” Davis said.
“As a two-time graduate from MTSU, I’ve personally experienced the quality education transfer students can expect to receive, and we are excited about the opportunity to guide them through the transfer process,” he added.
Davis said the objective is “to streamline the transfer process and provide enough information that the students always have a clear understanding what their next steps will be and who they should be working with to accomplish their goals.”
At the stops, MTSU staff will help students:
• Apply for admission to MTSU at www.mtsu.edu/applynow.
• Learn more about the Tennessee Transfer Pathways and other programs to help students transfer successfully.
MTSU transfer enrollment coordinators will be working with all of Tennessee’s community colleges to assist students in navigating the enrollment process, Davis said.
For any students or parents having questions about transferring to MTSU, they can email them to transfer@mtsu.edu or call 615-898-2111 and ask to speak with a transfer admissions counselor.
