November ‘Out of the Blue’ features research sought for MTSU-hosted spring IT conference [+VIDEO]

In case you missed it, learn about a spring information technology conference to be hosted on campus featured on the November edition of “Out of the Blue,” the television magazine program for Middle Tennessee State University.

For the first time, MTSU’s Department of Information Systems and Analytics in the Jones College of Business is hosting and sponsoring the 2024 ACM SIGMIS Computers and People Research Conference set for May 29-June 1, 2024, at MTSU.

Sam Zaza, MTSU associate professor of information systems and analytics and chair of the international conference, and Tim Greer, chair of MTSU’s Department of Information Systems and Analytics and a communication chair for the conference, discussed the peer-reviewed research presentation opportunities for students and faculty with program host Andrew Oppmann, vice president for marketing and communications.

Watch their full segment below:

“And the research opportunity is that for student to submit any type of research around technology, so the core has to be technology,” Zaza said. “But as you know, all disciplines actually have a component of technology. So any research that is related to technology, they are welcome to submit their work.”

Submissions open Dec. 1, and Greer recommended students who’ve done any type of research this semester or past year — whether it be a term paper, class research paper, independent study or honors thesis — should strongly consider submitting their work.

“You would submit that, and then you would get the opportunity to continue to work on it,” Greer said. “And then next May, when you present, you would be presenting not only to fellow students, but other students across the region, other scholars coming in from across the world. You would get immediate feedback, where you could enhance your research and take it further.”

Read more about the conference and an initiative spearheaded by Zaza to continue providing research presentation opportunities for students and faculty each year.
