Raider Review: March 2, 2018

Welcome to another edition of Raider Review! Here is a brief rundown of this week’s Blue Raider Athletic news and upcoming events you should watch out for.

Men’s Basketball

  • Beat Western Kentucky University 82-64.
  • Back to back regular season Conference-USA Champions.
  • Held WKU to 15 points below their season average.
  • Brandon Walters had 18 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Freshman Donovan Sims had 6 points, 6 assists, 4 steals.
  • Senior night is Saturday night as MTSU hosts Marshall.

Women’s Basketball

  • Host their senior night Saturday at 3 vs Old Dominion.
  • Gabby Lyon and Rebecca Reuter are 2 out of 28 MT women’s basketball players to have 500+ points AND 500+ rebounds.
  • Abbey Sissom sits 6th all-time in 3 point field goal percentage and was just named C-USA All-Academic Team.

Baseball

  • Lost earlier in the week 5-4 to the Vols.
  • Despite an early 3-0 lead, the Raiders found themselves trailing late 5-3, eventually losing 5-4.
  • They play 3 games this weekend all versus in-state opponents: Memphis, ETSU, and the Vols.
  • Jake Wyrick, Carson Lester, and Peyton Wiggington are the projected starters for the weekend.

Softball

  • Went 4-1 over the weekend.
  • Won 10 out of their last 11.
  • 6 players hitting above .300.
  • Play in North Florida this weekend as they take on: Presbyterian, North Florida, Campbell, and Iowa State.

Men’s Tennis

  • Beat Wisconson 4-3 on Sunday.
  • Tom Moonen has ice in his veins.
  • Beat Old Dominion earlier in the week. Chris Edge was the deciding factor in this one.
  • Hosts #22 Tulane at home.

Women’s Tennis

  • Broomsticks!
  • They swept Chattanooga 4-0
  • They swept Tulane 4-0
  • They play Brown next Sunday at 2.
