Raiders Review: April 20, 2018

Welcome to another edition of Raider Review! Here is a brief rundown of this week’s Blue Raider Athletic news and upcoming events you should watch out for.

Women’s Golf

  • Finished 5th in the CUSA Tournament
  • Future looks bright, however
  • Hanley Long finished in the top 5 for the second time as a Blue Raider.
  • Redshirt Freshman Jenna Burris finished in the top 10 for the second time. (Won the title last year)

Men’s Golf

The team will now head to the Conference USA Championship that begins Sunday in Texarkana, AR.

Women’s Tennis

The 5 seed Raiders swept through 12-seed UTSA 4-0.

Doubles started strong getting wins at courts 1 and 2.

  • Kim Kermet & Luisa Zirilli (6-2)
  • Lee Barnard & Marta Herrero (6-2)

Singles

  • Barnard – 6-2 , 60
  • Costnaza Magazzini 6-4, 6-1
  • Kermet – 6-4, 6-0
  • Today @ 1 p.m. vs. 4-seed FAU.

Men’s Tennis

2-seed takes on Rice today and if they win the will take on the winner of FAU vs UTSA.

4-6 in singles needs to prove strong. 6 hasn’t won a game this year for Rice (0-25).

Baseball

A 12-6 win over Lipscomb

  • Myles Christian 2-4 3-run Hr in the bottom of the third. 2 runs.
  • Austin Dennis 3-4. 2 runs. 27-game on base streak.
  • Ryan Kemp is BACK 2-4. 2 runs. 6 RBIs.

Scheldon Paulk got his first start. JUCO transfer. 5 innings 2 ER.

Head to Missouri State to take on the #14 Golden Eagles.

Softball

In a game where there were 22-combined hits, the Blue Raiders came out on top vs. Belmont, 9-8.

Lexi Cushing hit her 11th home run of the season. Tied for program single-season record.

Dani Munoz got one of her own.

  • Precious Birdsong 2-4. 1 run.
  • Morgan Harris 2-3. 1 run. 1 rbi.
  • Claire Smith 2-4. 1 run. 1 rbi.
  • Dani Munoz 2-4. 1 run. 3 RBIs.

Hosts FAU this weekend, doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.at
