This semester, Swank is teaching “Intro to Social Media Practice,” in which students design, plan and execute social media campaigns for actual clients. They also will measure their performance and become certified in the use of Hootsuite, a cyberspace metrics monitor.

She also is teaching “Sports and New Media,” in which students will create a new sports blog and cover the NCAA basketball tournament in real time using social media.

“It’s a matter of appearance online in that posting things in a professional manner means using a little bit of editorial judgment, ‘thinking before you tweet,’ as I like to say, keeping in mind who your audience is,” Swank said.
