Author charts town’s high points, hijinks on ‘MTSU On the Record’

Dr. Jack Justin Turner

The amazing power of high-school basketball to galvanize an entire town is the topic of a recent “MTSU On the Record” with host Gina Logue on WMOT-FM (89.5 and www.wmot.org).

Steve Allen discussed Maytown Magic and Mayhem: Fifty Years of Mountain Basketball, a book he completed after the original author, Dr. Jack Justin Turner, passed away in December 2011. You can listen to the conversation here.

Turner, a professor emeritus of international relations at MTSU, wrote this labor of love as a tribute to Maytown, Ky., where he played basketball as a youth.

The history is replete with anecdotes about the notables who went on to major accomplishments as adults and the hijinks that characterized the town’s basketball mania.
