Men on the MTSU campus will step into high heels Wednesday, March 30, to again raise awareness about a serious issue: sexualized violence against women.
“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 30 at the Campus Recreation Center.
A printable campus parking map is available at http://tinyurl.com/MTSUParkingMap.
The event marks MTSU’s participation in the International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence, an enterprise of the nonprofit organization Venture Humanity Inc.
Its founder, Frank Baird, created “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” in 2001 “to create a unique and powerful public experience that educates individuals and communities about the causes of men’s sexualized violence against women, provides them with prevention and remediation strategies and empowers them to further develop and implement these knowledges and skills interpersonally and politically,” according to www.walkamileinhershoes.org.
Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. The first 100 participants will receive a free T-shirt. All participants are invited to remain after the walk for a free concert and food.
This event is free and open to the public.
The university’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Office of Intercultural and Diversity Affairs, the June Anderson Center for Women and Nontraditional Students, the Office of Student Organizations and Service and the Student Government Association are co-sponsors of the event.
