MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University’s Art and Design Department’s newest exhibit is officially open in the Andrew L. Todd Hall on campus through Aug. 29.
The exhibition “Artistic Expressions: Let Your Voices Be Heard” is in Room 224A of the Todd Art Building. The exhibit showcases the artwork of more than 30 professional and emerging artists and creates opportunities for engagement across the arts, humanities, education, history, communication and cultural studies.
“Artistic Expressions asks us to consider not only what artists have to say, but how their choices of material, imagery, and process lend form to that voice,” said Eric Snyder, coordinator of exhibitions and engagement for Todd Art Gallery. “The exhibition allows distinct perspectives to exist beside one another, creating connections, contrasts, and opportunities for meaningful conversation.”
A two-part panel will be held beginning at noon on Thursday, Aug. 27. The first panel will feature artists Dayo Johnson, Destiney Powell, Fred H. Reaves and Ruben Torres, whose work represents a dynamic range of media, cultural narratives, and creative experiences.
The artists will discuss their work, creative philosophies, materials and experiences and participate in a Q&A session with the audience.
Immediately following, a mini-panel will be held with Tennessee Art Education Association president Paige Medlock and Nashville-based fine-art photographer, educator, curator, and arts advocate Carlton Wilkinson.
The two will discuss the powerful, personal relationships that can form among an artwork, its creator, its audience and how visual art can open conversations that reach beyond the gallery.
Free and open to the public, MTSU’s Todd Art Gallery is located inside Andrew L. Todd Hall, 542 Old Main Circle. Operating hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
