Campus construction changes updated for fall

MTSU’s road-construction project has made great progress, but there’s still much to complete, so detours have been created for the beginning of the fall 2011 semester.

Ron Malone, assistant vice president for events and transportation services, said an updated and printable map of campus detours can be found at the MTSU Parking Services website.

Some of the changes on the west side of campus include the new roundabout, which is not yet completed. That means the northbound leg of the current roundabout will remain closed, but MTSU Boulevard will be open from the current roundabout to Founders lane.

The north side of campus will remain accessible via Champions’ Way from Greenland Drive. Students and University personnel also may access the large parking lot adjacent to the Greenhouse from that direction. Residents of Scarlett Commons will continue to use their parking lots only from the MTSU Boulevard entrances, Malone said.

The intersection of MTSU Boulevard and Champions’ Way will become “one-way” to ease the flow of traffic to the Keathley University Center. Traffic leaving the area will turn left from the Todd Hall/Smith Hall/Forrest Hall parking lot and travel west on MTSU Boulevard to Normal Way.

Due to demolition of the Wood, Felder, Gore and Clement dorms, all parking areas surrounding those buildings are also closed.

Navigating campus will continue to be a challenge for the campus community this fall. Malone said students, faculty and staff, as well as campus visitors, are being encouraged to park in exterior lots and use the Raider Xpress shuttles to get around more easily and safely.
