The gap between men’s and women’s wages will be the subject of an information campaign at MTSU on Equal Pay Day.

The National Committee on Pay Equity originated Equal Pay in 1996 as a public awareness event to illustrate the gap between men’s and women’s wages.

The average American woman must work from Jan. 1, 2016, through April 4, 2017, just to catch up with an average man’s entire earnings for 2016, according to the NCPE.

Equal Pay Day T-shirts in men’s and women’s cuts, sizes S through 4X, will be available for $20 each. The shirts are red to symbolize how women are “in the red” financially compared to their male counterparts. All proceeds will benefit AAUW of Tennessee.

For more information, contact Dia Cirillo, president of AAUW-Murfreesboro, at 773-677-4238 or President@AAUW-Murfreesboro.org.
