Diabetes workshops upcoming in Rutherford, Wilson counties

Three new sets of “Yes I Can” Diabetes Self-Management Workshops are slated for diabetics in the Middle Tennessee area.

They will be held:

  • 1-3:30 p.m. on Mondays, Oct. 8-Nov. 12, at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center, located at 945 E. Baddour Parkway in Lebanon;
  • 9-11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Oct. 16-Nov. 27 (excluding Thanksgiving week), at the Primary Care and Hope Clinic, located at 1453A Hope Way in Murfreesboro; and
  • 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursdays, Oct. 26-Dec. 6 (excluding Thanksgiving week), at the Kingdom Ministries Workshop Center, 625 E. Jefferson Pike in Murfreesboro.

“Yes I Can!” is a free six-session workshop series to help diabetics and people with pre-diabetes symptoms in Rutherford County and the surrounding areas manage their disease.

Focal points include healthy eating, exercise, medications, preventing complications, medications, communication skills and more. Caregivers and/or a support person also are encouraged to attend with workshop participants.

The Center for Health and Human Services at MTSU is supervising the workshops, which are funded through a grant from the Tennessee Department of Health.

The sessions are limited to 20 people each. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

A doctor’s referral is not required to attend, though pre-registration is required for both participants and caregivers or support persons.
