MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Round up your recyclables ASAP as the Middle Tennessee State University’s Center for Energy and Sustainability readies to host its first recycling pop-up event for the campus community this week.

The event will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the MTSU RV lot east of the Tennessee Livestock Center on the northeast edge of campus off Blue Raider Drive. (See map at bottom.) The recycling stop-and-drop will allow MTSU employees and students already on campus to quickly drop off recyclable materials.
“We’re just trying to help out and add a convenience for employees and students to be able to bring their stuff to work or school and drop it off,” said Kristin England, the sustainability manager for the Center for Energy and Sustainability.

To make the drop-off run smoothly, participants are asked to bring their MTSU ID and to have materials pre-sorted and cleaned. Materials approved for the event are cardboard, metals, paper, aluminum cans and plastic. (See flyer at bottom for further details.)
Materials should not be in bags, excluding shredded paper.

The MTSU Recycling program has partnered with other entities like the Tennessee Environmental Council in the past to host recycling drop-offs for the Murfreesboro community. This pop-up will be the first event solely hosted by MTSU Recycling.
Labeled blue bins are located around campus for recycling different materials if students and employees are unable to attend the pop-up drop-off.
MTSU’s Center for Energy and Sustainability is part of the Facilities Services Department within the Division of Business and Finance.
