MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Two Textiles, Merchandising and Design students talked about the program’s spring runway show on the March edition of “Out of the Blue,” Middle Tennessee State University’s television magazine program.
Rebekah Frey and Guinneth Sintic, both co-directors of the annual fashion show, sat down with show host Andrew Oppmann, vice president of the university’s Division of Marketing and Communications.

Set for 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, this year’s TXMD Runway Show will relocate from its previous home inside the Miller Education Center on Bell Street to a new campus venue — the Student Union Ballroom, located at 1768 MTSU Blvd.
“We are hoping to have 500 people at the show,” said Frey, a TXMD major with a fashion merchandising concentration within the Department of Human Sciences. “We’re going to be really interactive and include the community as a whole.”
Theme this year is “Melting Point,” with a focus that raises awareness of how the fashion industry has contributed to global warming.
Students in the Textiles, Merchandising and Design, or TXMD, Fashion Promotion course are in charge of producing the annual show. But it’s a campuswide team approach.
“We’re really trying to work with different production teams of MTSU and audio production, DJs, photography, to create … the whole experience,” Frey said.

In addition to providing a place to spotlight students’ designs, the show gives them “real-world” experience with production and logistics, Frey noted.
“For a lot of us, this is our first time being able to be a part of something like this. Having it be through a class, it’s a little less scary,” said Sintic, an apparel design major. “I think a lot of people, this is what they want to be involved in after school, especially in our program. Being able to put on something like this is just very exciting.”
The ticketed event is $35 for general admission and $65 for VIP seating. To purchase, visit https://humansciences.mtsu.edu/txmd-runway-show/.
