This year’s Blue Zoo student pep section was in the spotlight for the September 2023 edition of “Out of the Blue,” the television magazine program of Middle Tennessee State University.
Bretlyn Warner, new president of the Blue Zoo, MTSU’s student section at athletic events, joined program host Andrew Oppmann, vice president for marketing and communications, to discuss her plans this year for the student organization, with reminders of important dates on the calendar every student should be aware of as fans of MTSU sports.
“We’re in a designated section inside Floyd Stadium and the Murphy center,” said Warner, a sophomore leisure and sport management major from Tullahoma, Tennessee. “It’s where we try and get other students to come together and get loud and rowdy, cheer on … our athletics teams.”

Deemed by MTSU Athletic Director Chris Massaro as “coach of the student section,” Warner said a priority for her is to continue to increase student attendance at MTSU athletic events, using the popular social media platform Instagram to keep the student body up to date of Blue Zoo activities.
“We get to go to all these events for free, so why wouldn’t you be able to come?” Warner said. “Because not every (NCAA) Division 1 school gets to allow their students to go to every athletic event for free.”
