May ‘Out of the Blue’ focuses on women’s stories, crime-solving science, engineering new careers

The May 2023 edition of Middle Tennessee State University‘s “Out of the Blue” TV magazine show is chock-full of great news campuswide, including a chat with an Emmy-winning broadcaster, humorist and recent keynote speaker; the latest on MTSU’s internationally recognized Forensic Institute for Research and Education and its partnerships that put students and faculty in the field; and looking toward groundbreaking of a new Applied Engineering Building.

Join us this month to hear from:

Nancy Giles, actor, commentator, voiceover artist, comedian and keynote speaker for MTSU’s 2023 National Women’s History Month observance, who’s tackled topics from high heels to Hurricane Katrina as an Emmy-winning “CBS Sunday Morning” contributor since 2002 and discusses how much society needs to hear women’s stories.

Dr. Thomas Holland, director of MTSU’s FIRE and a research professor in the College of Liberal Arts, who explains how the multidisciplinary organization’s working investigative partnerships with agencies ranging from local police departments to the U.S. Department of Defense are giving students and faculty hard-to-find opportunities to earn practical experience in the field.

Dr. Ken Currie, chair of MTSU’s Department of Engineering Technology, and mechatronics engineering lecturer Elissa Ledoux, who talk about breaking ground this summer on the new 87,000-square-foot Applied Engineering Building, which will provide a new home for the department’s renowned Mechatronics Engineering Program and three others, giving students the room, equipment and education to prepare for ever-changing engineering careers.
