MTSU’s Stones River Chamber Players are celebrating the “Journey” of spring Monday, March 28, in a free concert featuring works by European and American composers to conclude their season of “Music in Motion.”

The acclaimed faculty ensemble-in-residence’s free performance begins at 8 p.m. Central March 28 in Hinton Hall inside the School of Music’s Wright Music Building, located at 1439 Faulkinberry Drive in Murfreesboro.

Guests are encouraged to wear masks and follow social distancing measures for their safety and comfort inside Hinton Hall during the concert.

The program for the spring finale concert features:

• Hungarian composer Frigyes Hidas’ Trio for horn, trombone and tuba.

• Russian composer Anton Arensky’s Suite No. 1, Op. 15 for two pianos.

• American composer and pianist Frederic Rzewski’s Three Pieces for soprano saxophone, trombone and piano.

• American composer Randall Thompson’s Trio for oboe, clarinet and viola.

• American composer, trombonist and educator Doug S. Bristol’s Five Miniatures for trombone, tenor saxophone and piano.

The Stones River Chamber Players’ membership this season includes pianists Richard Blumenthal, Adam Clark, Eunbyol Ko, Arun Nadgir and Joseph Walker; Chris Combest on tuba; oboist David Cyzak; violinist Andrea Dawson; horn player Angela DeBoer; percussionists Christopher Dye and Brian Mueller; flutist Deanna Little; trombonist David Loucky; vocalists Will Perkins and H. Stephen Smith; and clarinetist Todd Waldecker.

Combest and Waldecker have served as the group’s co-directors this season. Paul Osterfield is the faculty composer.
