New, returning MTSU student-veterans invited to Aug. 24 ‘Newcomers Briefing’ at MEC

New and returning MTSU student-veterans and their families are welcome to attend a “Newcomers Briefing” hosted by the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center

The event, which is free and catered by Aramark, will be held starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in the second-floor atrium of the Miller Education Center, 503 E. Bell St. Free parking is available near the event site and adjacent parking lots.

Organizers request new and returning student-veterans and their families make their reservation by emailing DeAnne Hathaway at DeAnne.Hathaway@mtsu.edu.

The Newcomer’s Briefing is one of the Daniels Center’s oldest traditions,” said Hilary Miller, center director. “We believe it is important to start our students off on the right track. And for them to know their campus and community resources and where to turn when they need help. We want them to understand that the Daniels Center will be with them the entire time. Right from the start.”

Miller and her staff are targeting new-to-MTSU student-veterans and family members, but it is open to all student veterans and their families, she said.

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Keith M. Huber, senior adviser for veterans and leadership initiatives, will speak during the event, as will Miller.

Various community and MTSU partners will have information to share at the event. The Student Veterans of America MTSU B.R.A.V.O. Chapter will also have a presence.

MTSU’s fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 28.
