Students volunteer for emergency preparedness drill

Hundreds of MTSU students and numerous volunteers showed their True Blue Spirit on Saturday by participating in an emergency preparedness drill inside the Health, Wellness and Recreation Center.

Campus Recreation and Student Health Services staff, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, held the two-hour “Point of Dispensing” drill Saturday. The purpose of the exercise was to evaluate the campus’ ability to dispense medicine to students and staff in the event of an outbreak caused by some type of serious and/or deadly pathogen.

In order to conduct the drill, campus recreation and health services staff, under guidance from the state Department of Health, set up a mock medical dispensing location at which student volunteers could be registered, screened and processed in an orderly manner.
