Diabetes workshops upcoming in Rutherford County

MTSU will sponsor a free six-session workshop series to help diabetics deal with their illness.

Yes I Can graphicThe next series of “Yes I Can” Diabetes Self-Management Workshops is slated for 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays through March 26 at Third Baptist Church, 410 W. McKnight Drive in Murfreesboro.

Two additional workshop series will be scheduled later this spring and will be announced soon.

“Yes I Can” is designed for diabetics and people with pre-diabetes symptoms in Rutherford County and the surrounding Middle Tennessee areas.

Points of emphasis include healthy eating, exercise, medications, preventing complications, communication skills and more.

The Center for Health and Human Services at MTSU is supervising the workshops, which are funded through a grant from the Tennessee Department of Health.

The sessions are limited to 20 people each. Participants must be age 18 or over. A doctor’s referral is not required to attend, though preregistration is required for both participants and caregivers or support persons.
