MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State University women’s basketball head coach Rick Insell and associate head coach Matt Insell will be featured in an upcoming installment of the NCAA March Madness “Hometown Heroes”documentary series that will be broadcast multiple times on TrueBlue TV.


The special highlights the father-son coaching duo’s impact on the Blue Raiders program and their deep ties to the women’s basketball community in Tennessee. True Blue TV will air the installment at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8; at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13; and at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15.
Rick Insell, a Hall of Fame coach, has led Middle Tennessee’s women’s program to sustained success, while Matt Insell has played a key role in the team’s development.
The documentary showcases their journey, coaching philosophy, and influence on women’s basketball at Middle Tennessee and beyond.

“Sprinting down a floor like these two did, there ain’t many that wants to gravitate to that,” says Rick Insell in an opening scene during a practice on the floor of Murphy Center. “That’s what winning’s all about, in practice.”
The younger Insell shares that he’s frequently asked why they chose women’s basketball to coach. “That’s just who we are,” he voices during an opening montage of the almost 14 minute short film.
