MTSU Stormwater Program offers spring volunteer opportunities

The MTSU Stormwater Program is offering upcoming opportunities, including one Saturday, March 16, for students and members of the campus community to volunteer their time to help protect the water supplies on campus and in the surrounding community as well as raise awareness about the issue.

• March 16 – City of Murfreesboro’s annual Tree Day Event
When: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: Patterson Park

Volunteers needed to help to set up/take down tent, wrap bare root seedlings and assist in distribution of seedlings to local residents. Learn more at https://www.murfreesborotn.gov/1226/Tree-Day.

• April 13 – 2019 Park Day Volunteer Project
When: 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Where: Picnic Pavilion #1 – Murfreesboro’s Old Fort Park

Volunteers needed to remove trash and exotic plants from Fortress Rosecrans, Old Fort Park and Lytle Creek Greenway.

Registration is required. Organizers are asking individuals and groups to pre-register by contacting Jim Lewis at 615-893-9501 or by email at jim_b_lewis@nps.gov. We will need groups of six or more volunteers to have one person per every six to eight volunteers attend one of the Squad Boss training sessions and learn how to lead their fellow volunteers in the day’s work.

• April 20 – MTSU ACE Learning Center “Saddle Up” Event
When: 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
Where: MTSU Tennessee Livestock Center
Volunteers needed to help set up/take down booth and hand out educational items at booth.

• April 27 – City of Murfreesboro Earth Day Celebration
When: 8 a.m.-2p.m.
Where: Murfreesboro’s Downtown Square
